Arnold Palmer Receives Congressional Gold Medal

palmer-gets-gold-medal_originalWorld famous golfer Arnold Palmer was honored with the Congressional Gold Medal today in a ceremony held at the U.S. capitol rotunda. The 83 year old is only the 2nd golfer and 6th athlete to ever be awarded the honor and he showed both humility and a sense of humor while receiving his medal joking that he was “particularly proud of anything that the House and the Senate agree on.” Palmer is to date the 5th most winning athlete on the PGA tour with 62 wins and 7 major championships. Palmer said he was very humbled and grateful to have been chosen for the honor. “I like to think and truly believe that golf and golfers promote some sort of human values that symbolize such characteristics as honesty, hard work, dedication, responsibility, respect for the other guy, playing by the rules,” said Palmer in accepting the award.The Congressional Gold Medal is one of the highest honors given to civilians in America.
