After one of the the worst seasons in the history of the Boston Red Sox, the powers that be have announced that Bobby Valentine has been fired and will not return next season to fulfill the second year of his management contract. A press release was issued to correspond with the firing. “Our 2012 season was disappointing for many reasons. No single issue is to blame. We’ve been making personnel changes since August, and we will continue to do so as we build a contending club. With an historic number of injuries, Bobby was dealt a difficult hand. He did the best he could under the seriously adverse circumstances, and I am thankful to him.” It was a tough season for the Sox who finished with their worst record since the 60’s, 69-93 and came in dead last in the American League East. Valentine accepted his termination gracefully saying that he too was disappointed in the season’s outcome but appreciated the experience of coaching such a great team.
