The ex-NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested earlier today after turning himself in on a warrant that was recently issued for his arrest in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for violating many terms of his probation from a 2012 domestic violence incident with ex-wife TV reality star Evelyn Lozada.
A warrant had been issued for the 35 year old earlier this month on Thursday, May 16, 2013 because he never reported to his probation officer for the second time and never showed the court proof that he had enrolled in a domestic violence education class.
He appeared before a Broward County judge today for his alleged probation violation. The judge found him guilty of being in violation with his probation and ordered that he be arrested and taken into custody. Chad responded to the judge trying to tell her that this was all a big misunderstanding but she didn’t agree and sent him to jail. His bond was set at $1,000.
The six-time Pro Bowl, Johnson of course posted the $1,000 bail and was scheduled for another hearing on June 3, 2013. Staff at the sheriff’s office reported that Johnson failed to meet his probation officer on February 15, 2013 and March 15, 2013. He was also supposed to enroll and complete the “Batterers Intervention Program.”
The altercation that Johnson is on probation for happened back on August 11, 2012 and involved his, then wife Evelyn Lozada. He was arrested after she reported that he head butted her during a fight. Johnson was playing for the Miami Dolphins at the time, which had signed him on June 11, 2012 but released him from the team on August 12, 2012, the day after the incident occurred. When he was released from his position as the wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins from coach Joe Philbin, it was aired on an episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks that aired on August 14, 2012. Lozada also filed for divorce right after the incident as well. You can see Lozada on the TV show ”Basketball Wives.”
