Danica Patrick is making headline news right now and is on the top of her game. She won the Daytona 500 Pole today, Sunday 17, 2013. She is the first woman in history to ever hold the top spot of this race and everyone who witnessed her practice run yesterday saw this coming. Saturday she lit up the track by finishing faster than anyone else of the day. Practice laps were held at the Daytona International Speedway and she finished her lap at 196.220 mph.
Well, in this case practice does make perfect because the next day she secured the top spot in the qualifying runs for the Daytona 500 race that will be held on February 24, 2013. Danica Patrick said yesterday that she wanted to take her team, Stewart-Haasto to the front spot and make some of her spongers proud such as, Go Daddy, and that she did.
The next fastest of the day was Jeff Gordon who has also walked away with a top spot in the Daytona 500. Jeff told the media that, “It’s great to be a part of history with Danica being on the pole. I think we all know how popular she is, what this will do for our sport. Congratulations to her. Proud to be on there with her.” He also laughed and said that he was at least the fastest guy.
When it comes to making history and being in the spotlight seems to come very easily to Danica. Danica humbly said this about her life in racing: “I was brought up to be the fastest driver, not the fastest girl. That was instilled in me from very young, from the beginning. Then I feel like thriving in those moments, where the pressure’s on, has also been a help for me. I also feel like I’ve been lucky in my career to be with good teams and have good people around me. I don’t think any of it would have been possible without that.”
The second half of qualifying runs for Daytona will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 before the big race on February 24, 2013, The Daytona 500 on FOX at 12 p.m.!
