Lebron James has become the youngest player in NBA hisotry to score 20,000 points.
In the Wednesday night game against the Golden State Warriors, James earned the title when he made a short jumper with 2:45 left in the second quarter. He only needed 18 points coming into the game to be the 38th player to reach the mark. The previous holder was Lakers player Kobe Bryant, who received the honor at the age of 29. James is 28.
“The best part about it is I was in rhythm too, so it wasn’t one of those forced shots,” said James. “I was able to get the switch on David Lee and get to the elbow and make a shot. It’s pretty cool.”
Lebron James is already the youngest player in the league’s history to win Rookie of the Year, record a triple double, score 1,000 points, score 10,000 points, and win MVP honors at an All-Star Game.
The Heat player is also the 13th player to have 20,000 points and 5,000 assists. The only active players to hold that mark is Laker’s Kobe Bryant and the Celtics’ Kevin Garnett.
“That’s a big-time moment,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He’s such a special guy. He’s a special player. He’s a once-in-a-generation type of player.”
