Barcelona star player Lamine Yamal has captured the attention of the whole world in the latest edition of the Euros. The 16-year-old has been a vital player, some might even say the best player for Spain so far in the tournament—a feat even players in their 20s can’t imagine.

Seeing just how great Lamine is with the ball, it comes as no surprise when clubs started going after him, and PSG did just that.

World Record Fee Denied

PSG started showing interest in Yamal a while ago, and with pockets as deep as theirs, who could blame them? Most clubs can’t afford Lamine, but PSG can, so they went for it with a world-record $250 million bid. Which is just insane.

Ironically, if this went through, PSG would’ve broken their own record. The biggest transfer in football as of now is Neymar Jr. for $222 million, who also went from Barca to PSG.

Why Barca Won’t Sell Lamine

$250 million is a huge amount, which Barca, a club in dire financial conditions, could really use. But they still rejected it. You see, Lamine is yet another star coming out of La Masia. Players like this tend to be very loyal to the club.

Just look at the Barcelona teams over the years—almost half of the players are La Masia graduates. Plus, Lamine has made it clear he won’t be leaving Barca anytime soon; he’s still very young. Regardless of what their feelings are, if Barcelona rejects a $250 million bid, that means they believe Lamine is worth even more.

Will PSG bid even higher? Seems unlikely, as Lamine Yamal is set to become a key player in the years to come. PSG may have to improve their own grassroots program rather than going after already well-developed players.
